Photos and thoughts from a week of shooting at Travis Lutter's MMA

Well folks it's been quite a week. I've spent a good part of it up at Travis Lutter's MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school shooting photos and videos for him. It's been a lot of hard work and a learning experience for sure, but also incredibly rewarding and fun. After attending basically every class he had to offer at both of his locations, I can say that Travis definitely runs a high quality operation. All the guys who train there are super dedicated (some guys literally went nonstop for three hours in a row) and everyone definitely seemed like they loved being there.

Even better, the possibilities for both still and video photography were endless. So much intensity, sweat, pain, and enjoyment all add up to great images. I feel like I did a relatively good job capturing them. For this shoot I took the Canon 7D out for a spin with a Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens. Both camera and lens were awesome- the 7D is a dream for people like me who want to switch back and forth rapidly from video to photo mode and back again, it's just a simple flip of a switch. The lens was fast, zoom was great for the guerilla-style shooting I was doing, and the IS worked amazingly well- I was able to capture great handheld footage.

Here are a few of my favorite MMA/Jiu-Jitsu photos. I'm still digesting the video, but I should have several pieces to show very soon. And if you're in the Fort Worth/Arlington area and want an amazing martial arts school- you know where to go.
